Speaking of Growth...

As many of you know, we are excited to be moving into a larger space just one block from our current location — at the corner of 22nd and Minnesota Streets. Our beautiful new home will be in a yellow building that dates to 1859, and which has been owned by a very special Italian-American family since the 1930s. Our expanded space will allow for significantly greater seating capacity, including at a bar that will wrap around a large, open kitchen, as well as at sidewalk tables on a landscaped, west-facing sidewalk.

Piccino's coffee bar, while maintaining a separate entrance, will once again be joined with the restaurant. Although our menu will remain largely unchanged, do expect a few surprises — including our newly launched pasta project, a few more evening entrees, and expanded wine as well as breakfast menus.

San Francisco's Sagan-Piechota Architecture designed the space (the rendering above shows the main entrance on Minnesota Street, the one at left a view from the host's station), and our goal is to open before the end of 2010.

We're also thrilled to announce two other businesses that will be joining us at the yellow building. One will be the second location of Modern Appealing Clothing (MAC), which we think is the city's finest cutting-edge clothing store. Run by the brother/sister team of Ben & Chris Ospital, MAC has been a San Francisco destination for 30 years, and in addition to the new Dogpatch store will maintain their current space on Grove Street in Hayes Valley.

The other is DIG, a wine shop and tasting bar that will be run by Wayne Garcia, who is the husband of Piccino partner Sher Rogat. Garcia has managed Piccino's small yet well regarded wine list from the day we opened, and DIG's highly edited selection will focus on small, mostly French and Italian producers.

Thanks to all of you for your enthusiasm and support — we can't wait to welcome you into our new home!
